The problem this product solves

The climate is changing and we need to save our oceans from fossil fuels and pollution before it is too late. Therefore it is time to provide a new way of enjoying the maritime boat life without harming nature.

Piloting a boat today is associated with loud noise from the petrol engine affecting the overall experience of hearing the beautiful and peaceful sound of the waves. Since the electric boat segment is quite new, the range of boats focusing on both superior design and providing long battery capacity allowing for navigating long distances on the ocean is limited.

How the product solves it

Sustainability, design and technology are the three main pillars surrounding our portfolio company X Shore’s vision and work. The X Shore boat is 100% electric and therefore not harming nature with fossil fuels and pollution. Since the engine is battery driven you are able to enjoy the power of silence when crossing the ocean hence enjoying nature at a whole new level. A lot of focus has been put into research and development and therefore the boats are able to offer long battery capacity making it possible to cross long distances without the need to charge the battery frequently.

Product features

Each X Shore craft features a modular interior and hull optimized for efficient passage through water. Outstanding acceleration, coupled with speed and performance over distance are essential for the modern seafarer. The boats are equipped with a battery and magnetic gearbox ensuring silence and zero air friction, a top speed of 40 knots while a consistent speed of 25 knots can be achieved when cruising for more than 2 hours.

X Shore offer an open-modular interior rail system allowing to customize and add personal preference to the boats design, allowing different seats, sunbeds and cargo storage options to be mounted.

FansofXshore strongly support X Shore’s strategy to enter the market by targeting the high-end segment and thereafter turn towards the mass with lower prices in order to reach larger volumes.

The global leisure boat market reached in 2017 36.6 billion USD and is estimated to reach 51.4 billion USD in 2025.The global electric boat market is estimated to reach USD 14.3 billion by 2023 from USD 7.8 billion in 2017 (source:Business Wire).

This potential growth we see coming from a higher demand for environmental causes, the probability of government subsidies together with reduction in electrical price and growing outdoor activities.

Competitive landscape

The market and demand for electric vehicles is growing and other companies than X Shore have entered the market. Most of these brands target a low-end and low price segment, where high technology and style have not been prioritized.

Together with our portfolio company we further see non electric traditional boat companies targeting the high-end segment, as competitors to X Shore.

Unique differentiator from competitors

FansofXshore consider X Shore having a big technological advantage vs. traditional boat suppliers by providing a premium speedboat experience with minimal environmental effect, engine smell and noise pollution.

Compared to other electric boats, we see strength in X Shore with its focus on style and innovation. The boats are paired with exceptional acceleration, speed up to 40 knots and range of 100 nautical miles/185 km on a single charge. Further they distinguish with their patented hull’s design Z-line, improving speed through hydrodynamics and X-Blade propeller creating superior energy with low consumption.

Company revenue streams

The portfolio company X Shore’s revenue will be generated through sales of the X Shore boats. The pricing strategy is to enter the market by targeting the high-end segment with a cost of around 2,8 M SEK per boat. Their approach is to start with an expensive "Roadster" and then in order to achieve a certain amount of volume, they will push prices down to approximately below 1 M SEK.

Product/service distribution

FansofXshore believe in X Shore’s strategy to use carefully selected and aggressive marketing in digital channels such as Facebook/Instagram in order to establish a strong brand while aiming to build a non-exclusive global retail network.

Their distribution will mainly be driven direct to consumer through the website xshore.com where customers are able to design and module the boat according to their own needs. Distribution will further go through event and sales at boat exhibitions and a variety of yacht distributors.

Previous Financing

The capital and resources injected to date into FansofXshore’s future portfolio company X Shore AB by the Founder and a small circle of sector experts, have been used for the development of technical functionality, creating a technical plattform, trademark and operations. FansofXshore is the first financial investor that has been offered to participate in the funding of X Shore AB.

Use of funds

FansofXShore will use the capital invested by acquiring shares in X Shore AB. Our ambition is that X Shore will use such and proceed to grow and mitigate the portfolio company´s three main risks. We support X Shore to focus the capital invested on the following three topics:

  • Marketing: Building up a strong brand.
  • Sales: Build out a retail network, D2C (direct to consumer) model and reach the sales target.
  • Development in production: Develop the production process in order to be able to handle larger volumes.

Return on Investment

The primary goal for the portfolio company X Shore is to deliver on the financial plan, meaning 60 boats in 2020 and 200 boats in 2021. By doing this they aim to take a leading position in the market for electric boats. With this position exit possibilities through FansofXshore might appear.

Risk Analysis

FansofXshore share X Shore’s view on their three core risks:

  1. Production - Complexity of producing the boat in large volumes. Today they are equipped with resources for smaller order volumes. Increased sales will require bigger muscles.
  2. Establishment - Building a new strong brand from scratch.
  3. Sales - Build out a retail network, D2C (direct to consumer) model and reach the sales target.

By raising capital we believe X Shore can mitigate above risks. This funding round will enable FansofXShore to support X Shore to be more aggressive with marketing, work on the retail network and to develop production capacity.
