Extreme Basics of Cooking 101 Videos

I love cooking shows and programs like Chopped. I watch in awe as the host prepares fantastic dishes with such ease and elegance and I tell myself I’ll do that once I have all the equipment they use and a large kitchen. As far as Chopped, I am humbled by how little I know of food and combining ingredients to prepare a dish. If I was on that show I’d just be standing there trying to figure out what 99% of the ingredients are, let alone how to manipulate them into a tasty dish!!

Over the years I have become a hoarder of cook books and recipes. I dream of the day when I magically wake up and can cook like a pro, but like any skill there is a learning curve and daily practice to perfect the skill.

Not to say I’m a bad cook, but I lack creativity because I am afraid to step out of my comfort zone and try new things. I’m also a visual, hands on learner and a cookbook with no pictures or “step-by-step” instructions is lost on me. How do I know what it’s suppose to look like if I cannot see an example? Yes cooking shows give you a visual example, but those shows are about ratings and glamour more then about teaching those of us who are lacking skills to learn to cook.

Videos will cover vegetarian dishes, diabetic dishes and healthy eating in general to encourage viewers to make their own meals from scratch and not buy as much processed/fast foods.

The videos will be available on You Tube so everyone can have access to them. I will post 1 video a week to begin and then slowly graduate to where I am posting multiple videos per week.

Project Future:
*Develop an accompanying website (in progress) listing all videos in their appropriate category (entrée, appetizer, dessert, etc)
*Post all recipes demonstrated on videos so viewers can replicate
*Expand classes to include canning of home fruit and vegetables from your garden
*Create mini slide show courses on knife sharpening, curing cast iron pans, etc
*Create my own recipes
