Children/youth library in Kenyan slum

By Maria Johansson Help the children & youth library in the slum Kibera in Kenya to get educational books and a computer. 50 young students visit the children and youth library every day. Here they get access to educational material and homework help, but as of today there is a lack of books. The library is crucial for the children to get the education they need since their schools lack resources. The library also provides youth with educational books within entrepreneurship to allow them start up their own business.
Insamling - Fundraising

Do you want to contribute so that children and youth in the Kenyan slum get access to educational material?

My goal is to fund 30 educational books for children and 10 educational books about entrepreneurship for youth. I also aim to fund a computer which the children could play educational games on, mainly learn English. I am travelling to Kenya in August and will visit the library in person to provide them with the books and computer we raised together. Education is key for taking the children out of poverty and your contribution can change their lives!

Africa Health and Community Program (AHCP) is a small non-profit organization I was volunteering for during 2010/2011. They run a library, train youth in Entrepreneurship and run a women empowerment program. It is situated in Kibera (Kenya), one of the largest slums in Africa. The organization has a positive impact in the community but very limited resources since the competition of funds is hard. Isabel Sadya runs the organization herself with the help of 3 other volunteers.

I helped AHCP to run their children and youth library. Every day I met youngsters who were dedicated to take themselves and their families out of poverty by studying hard. Their schools lack resources so after their school has ended, at 4pm, they come to the library to study for 2-3 hours. Here they get access to educational material and homework support from volunteers. The library also works as a form of daycare since many parents work until the evening.

I highly appreciate your support! Thank you!
